Well that seems to be the question right? A holistic health coach is me! 🙂
Two years ago I couldn’t tell you that this is what I wanted to be. I also couldn’t tell you what I knew a holistic health coach is and what they do. I began to take a journey with finding myself and figuring out what my future goals would be. I knew exactly what I was good at in regard to school! Nutrition has always been a huge part of my life, because without nutrition we wouldn’t be the people we are today. So I have a deep connection with nutrition, and I am looking to deepen the connection too! I think in Google I typed “nutrition coaching” and this school called Maryland University of Integrative Health came up. I had never heard of the school but I seen a program called “health coaching.” I took a couple of months to enroll in the school because I wanted clear research on it and to make sure it was the perfect fit for me, and it has been great! I am enrolled in the Master of Arts in Health & Wellness Coaching, and my Area of Concentration is Nutrition. I have one more year left before I receive my degree. But I hold a Post-Baccalareute Certificate in Health & Wellness Coaching. This means, I am eligible to coach clients and I am super excited about it. I want everyone to meet this holistic health coach, Kiona Thomas.
I want to let you know what a holistic health coach is. There are many different definitions and different names that certification programs refer to them as, so there isn’t a set definition of a holistic health coach. The word holistic isn’t a very popular word that you hear often but I love how strong the word is to me. It makes me think of a WHOLE. Which is why part of this health and wellness website is stemmed from the word (w)holistic. Holistic means the whole self; mind, body, and spirit. To be specific it means taking care of the whole person physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, etc. This can be done through exercise, eating mindfully and healthy, meditation, self-care, etc. Anyway that you can take care of your whole entire self equally it is considered holistic. Next, a health coach is someone who has a skill set to help someone reach their highest potential through holistic health. This could mean helping someone set health goals, helping them understand their inner self, bring awareness to parts of themselves they never explored, asking curious questions that could help a client reach their overall health goals. A health coach will be referred to as the coach and the coachee will be referred to as a client. The relationship will feel more like a partnership because there are so many opportunities for growth and change, which can happen quickly or at a slow pace depending on the client. Telephonic sessions are required once a week for about 45 minutes, but the first and last sessions will be a bit more extensive. Health coaches are awesome listeners who listen to what you say and what you don’t say. They do not tell you what to do, you tell them what YOU are going to do! Holistic health coaches are dedicated to the client’s growth and possible change while achieving their goals. A holistic health coach will help the client remain accountable for their growth as well. Holistic health coaches also commits to keeping all information confidential and will remain open and flexible for the client during the relationship. A holistic health coach makes it all about the client, not once will you hear them spill about themselves.
If you would like a deeper spill, and possibly want to experience this with me, then I am more than happy to help in your process of change. Beginning November 1, 2017 I will be offering FREE health coaching sessions for a month. It will be on a first come, first serve basis. Email me or leave a comment letting me know you are interested. I hope the overview of a holistic health coach can benefit you and your health goals. We all want to be healthy and happy right?
I look forward to some responses!
